Tepih na ražnju

Oaza&Sons edition

The illustrated children’s book Tepih na ražnju was created as a continuation of a successful collaboration between writer and playwright Jasna Jasna Žmak and animator and illustrator Jelena Oroz, whom Oaza Books connected at the end of 2018 for the project Letters from the Edge of the Forest. Likewise, Tepih na ražnju is based on the play of the same name by Jasna Jasna Žmak awarded second prize at the Mali Marulić 2018 competition. Just as Letters from the Edge of the Forest problematizes the power and misuse of writing, so Tepih na ražnju does the same thing at the level of speech and verbal communication. A story about forest animals who, due to small changes in speech, lose the ability to communicate with each other, builds an image of a forest world in which the common sense and humanity of forest animals, as absurd as it sounds, are in constant conflict with the producers of social injustices we accept as unquestionable. Yet ultimately, common sense and humanity in that animal world win.
