catalogue of wooden boats ⁄ katalog drvenih barki

The book is an attempt to raise the general public’s awareness of the problems surrounding the preservation of wooden boats. The question of how to preserve wooden boats in the 21st century has been posed by many coastal communities. Few have found an affirmative answer, and their success will ultimately depend on numerous circumstances. It is particularly difficult in places that have lost the continuity of living with wooden boats, which is the case in Crikvenica and its environs, where the tradition of wooden boat building has not only disappeared, but the very role of boats has changed considerably because small fish are no longer commercially fished, and gardening on private lots on the opposite shore of the Vinodol Channel is no longer necessary. The first section of the book presents the history of traditional wooden boat building in Selce, Crikvenica, Dramalj and Jadranovo, while the second contains a catalogue with photographs of existing wooden boats in this area.
