Slučaj Šakić: anatomija jednog skandala ⁄ The Šakic case: The anatomy of a scandal — If Croatian nationalism has held up so well for decades, if it continues to have the same intensity of heart-warming, burning cheeks, sharpening knives and trapping the political capitalism of the huddled masses, then perhaps the protest can also be of archival origin. You blow the dust off an old file and defy the modern spirit of time. Nearly a quarter of a century after the first edition, under the blows of the passing years, this book has probably lost a lot, but not its theme. That, of course, says nothing about its quality. Rather, it is an indicator of the certain rigidity of the political community, which, after fulfilling its dream of a “state of its own ”, tries so hard to change actors, sets and stage props, and certainly the content of the drama that it pathetically refers to as social life. Therefore, in the decision to release one archaeological remnant of the resistance back into the public domain, there are no museum notions, which, again, should not be taken as a happy circumstance: Instead of why now, the question of why ever seems more appropriate.
