Yusef Abdul Lateef (1920-2013) was a musician, composer, writer, painter, philosopher, teacher and scholar, close family, husband and father, and to others — a brother. He played a number of musicals, primarily blow-blowers, while also making them amateur, though he is certainly best known as one of the great tenor saxophone giants. It is inevitable to mention that in the 1950s, he created what would later be popularly called the world musicom. Although its influence is certainly remarkable, it could be argued that, as a musician and composer, it is insufficiently appreciated, at least in comparison with some other great jazz musicians. In doing so, it should be noted that he was never known for his literary work, nor, probably, for his painting, although he explored both arts in an extremely original, personal way. In the end, he published only a few books of fiction in his lifetime, performed only one painting exhibition, and recorded more than seventy music albums. But this book sums up Lateef’s literary work, presenting the first translation of his work in general.
